Day 6: Excess Soil Removed From Site, Bricking Up Started
The start of the second week, and we were on holiday. No photos. They took the soil down to level with the top of the foundations, apparently 6 skips needed (confirmed by a neighbour).
It is amazing how much earth needs to come out of the area for an extension. I thought that the level of the ground between the foundation trenches was at the lowest point but they had to take out a huge amount to lower is enough.
Once all the earth was removed they then started “bricking up”, which is how they referred to brick laying. The first bricks which were placed direct onto the concrete foundations were lower quality, cheaper bricks, and then nicer ones above. Photo of these in next articles.
