Day 2: Trenches Dug and Rainwater Drains Located
Day 2: AM.
Today the digger and skip arrived in the morning and the foundation trenches were started. The builders said that our soil is very hard and even the digger is struggling. I know all about that, having planted many trees over the years, and also digging out the old patio by hand!
Today I made a lot of cups of tea and coffee and also served cookies at elevenses. I have run out of cookies.
Day 2: PM
Once the digger was in they cracked on with cracking open the rock solid earth that I called a garden. The digger struggled, but they dug out half the trenches for the foundations by lunchtime and got almost the rest done by 4pm. The skip was filled so they stopped for the day.
We had some fun trying to work out what 2 pipes were for, and concluded after opening inspection covers and flushing toilets that the pipes in the garden are all rainwater run off. Good to know where the sewage goes too (along the side of the house to the road into main drainage).
The council inspector is coming tomorrow to check the trenches, which have been dug to 1m depth so far. The ground is so solid it is improbable the they will have to go deeper. But the foundation / cement lorry is not available until Thursday morning, so still time to dig deeper if need be. Now the day 2 photos! Rather than carefully select photos I am just adding them all.
Hi, When the structural/working drawing were done by the architect did you have any idea where the sewage pipe was? Did you contact the sewage provider or house builder for plans? Great website by the way
I think the architect looked at that, but it did not impact on the build so was not on the plans. All the waste runs alongside the house along the drive to the road. But I know people who have had issues with sewage at the back where they want to build.
